From a Victory Sauce to a Bigfoot Bistro: My Next Culinary Adventure!
Hello fellow food lovers and aspiring chefs!
For those of you who are new here, I wanted to share a little about the journey that led me to this exciting new project.
My story as Chef Bari is one of passion and incredible experiences. Though I began my professional life as an architectural technologist, I made a pivotal career change to follow my true calling in the culinary world. I graduated from the NAIT Culinary Arts Program in 1989 as Northern Alberta’s Top Apprentice and went on to operate two successful restaurants at golf courses in Alberta and British Columbia. During this time, I had the distinction of serving a remarkable list of clients, including celebrities like Brooke Shields and Kenny Rogers, and Edmonton icons like Wayne Gretzky.
Perhaps the most legendary chapter of my career involves my famous Bolognese sauce. It became an unofficial “victory sauce” for the Edmonton Eskimos, who believed they won every home game after eating it! The tradition became so valued that Coach Ron Lancaster himself asked me for the recipe—a treasured family heirloom passed down from my Grandpa Varze in Coripoli, Italy.
After decades behind the stove and sharing my passion in my cookbook, “Canadian Recipes of the Great White North,” I’m embarking on my most unique culinary adventure yet.

I’ve always believed that the best way to learn is by doing, but let’s be honest—making mistakes in the kitchen can be frustrating. So, what if you could learn without the pressure? What if someone… or something… could make the mistakes for you?

The “Bigfoot Harry Bistro” is a brand-new project designed for anyone who has ever wanted to learn about cooking, from aspiring apprentices to curious home cooks. Here’s how it works:
- Funny, Teachable Moments: Each week, I will showcase a new, funny, quick video clip of Bigfoot Harry trying his best to tackle a recipe. You’ll see him make the common mistakes we all make when we’re learning—from measuring incorrectly to using the wrong technique.
- The Real Recipe, Revealed: After you’ve had a good laugh with Harry, I will showcase the real, true recipe and the correct methods right below the video. You get to learn from Harry’s blunders in a fun, stress-free way!
- A New Adventure Every Week: At the end of each funny clip, I will give you a fun, delicious recipe that relates directly to the video you just watched.
