Hello everyone, Chef Bari here.
That familiar chill is starting to creep into the air. The days are getting shorter, and my mind is already racing with ghoulishly delicious ideas. For the last few years, I’ve made it a tradition to go all-out with a custom Halloween theme cake, each one pushing my creativity to new, horrifying heights.
It’s a chance to blend classic baking with a bit of horror movie magic. Today, let’s take a walk down a dark and sugary memory lane to recap the cakes of Halloween past, and then I’ll give you the first official taste of what I’m planning for 2025.
Flashback to 2023: The Halloween Spooky Cake
Our first stop is 2023, the year of the Spooky Cake. This one was all about fun, creepy-crawly vibes. I built a tall, vibrant orange-frosted cake and then drenched it in a rich, dark chocolate ganache drip. The star of the show, of course, were the eight-legged critters—deliciously creepy spiders made from Oreo cookies with little candy eyes that seemed to follow you around the room. To top it all off, a hand-piped spiderweb made of white icing gave it that perfect haunted house feel. It was the kind of cake that made you smile right before you took a massive, delicious bite.

Raising the Stakes in 2024: The Vampire Cake
Last year, I decided to embrace the darkness with the 2024 Vampire Cake. This was a masterpiece of delicious darkness. We started with a deep, black chocolate cake, enrobed in black buttercream rosettes. Then came the blood. A sinister, shimmering crimson drip cascaded down the sides, pooling at the bottom. The cake was crowned with terrifying shards of blood-red sugar glass, jutting out like broken pieces from a vampire’s lair. And let’s not forget the personal-sized coffin cake on the side for the vampire who doesn’t like to share! This cake was less about fun and more about elegant horror, and it was a bloody good time to create.

The Big Reveal: Get Ready for a Bloody Mess in 2025!
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for. I’ve spent weeks brainstorming, sketching, and thinking about how to top the last two years. I wanted something ambitious. Something shocking. Something that looks gruesome but tastes heavenly.
The 2025 Chef Bari Halloween theme is… The Halloween Bloody Cake.
Picture this: a pristine, elegant, multi-layered white cake. Pure, clean, and beautiful. Now, imagine that beautiful cake has been the scene of something horrific. I’m planning a ‘bloody mess’ of epic proportions—a stunning contrast between the pure white canvas and a gruesome, gory, and hyper-realistic splatter of delicious ‘blood.’
The challenge will be making it look truly terrifying while ensuring every single drop is absolutely delicious. This is my most ambitious Halloween project yet, and you’ll get to follow the entire journey. I’ll be perfecting the perfect edible blood, experimenting with splatter techniques, and designing a cake that will be the undisputed, blood-soaked star of any Halloween party.
Stay tuned here and on my social media channels to see the “Bloody Cake” come to life. In the meantime, head over to the recipe section to try your hand at the cakes from 2023 and 2024.
