Good Day Folks!
The month of May is extra special for our family. It’s a beautiful whirlwind where we celebrate our wedding anniversary, my wife’s birthday, my granddaughter’s birthday, and my own birthday—all packed into one joyful month. That means the kitchen stays busy as we bake up cakes and desserts to mark each occasion with love and sweetness.
This time of year, our table typically features some of our all-time favorites:
- Chocolate Mousse Cake
- Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing
- Strawberry Shortcake
- Tiramisu

Since my wife’s birthday comes first, we’re kicking things off with a classic Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing—but with a few elegant twists. We’re baking it as a beautiful round cake and infusing it with Grand Marnier liqueur. Thinly sliced strawberries, soaked in the same orange liqueur, add a bright, surprising hint that perfectly complements the warm spices of the carrot cake. A layer of fresh whipped cream in the center helps mellow the sweetness of the tangy cream cheese icing for a perfectly balanced bite.

Later this month, I’ll be preparing our Strawberry Shortcake using an exciting new white cake recipe that top culinary bakers have been raving about. This luxurious white cake is silky, buttery, and incredibly tender — better than traditional sponge. It’s a technique usually reserved for high-end kitchens, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Subscribe here and I’ll post the recipe for this newest creation as soon as it’s ready.
I’d like to wish my beautiful wife a very Happy Birthday! On May 19, 2026, we’ll also be celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary. On that special day, I step out of the kitchen and we head to our favorite local restaurant for a relaxing evening of fine dining.
We also have a long-standing tradition of flying to Las Vegas to celebrate in grand style. We’ve been making the trip since the 1980s — we’re true degens at heart, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Wishing everyone a sweet and memorable May filled with love, laughter, and delicious cake.
Warm regards,
Chef Bari
