Baking

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

My favourite hobby or pastime is learning baking skills by my favourite Pastry Chef Anna Olson. Way back in Culinary Art Classes we did do Baking Shops, however when you’re out in the field you concentrate on cooking or baking. At school you had a choice to become a Pastry Chef or pursue your career as a Chef. And let’s not forget it takes years of in-house training to either become an Executive Chef or Pastry Chef. Some may think you immediately become a Chef or Pastry Chef after your two year Culinary Art Course. That is not the case.

Nevertheless, because I pursued my career as an Executive Chef , I could only watch the magic, Pastry Chefs creating some awesome desserts that looked more like an art piece then something you eat. Now that I’m retired I like to make specialty cakes and desserts as a hobby of mine. Some cakes take a lot of planning ahead and may take 2 – 3 days to complete. My grandkids love it when I make cakes and desserts – lol.

I follow Pastry Chef Anna Olson because her skills are above and beyond ; her expertise is evident. Following her techniques is teaching me the importance of her magical creations. Of course, being Canadian, it’s a plus that Anna is also Canadian. Canadians in general don’t receive as much recognition as they deserve.

So there you go — my hobby is creating pastries, cakes and desserts, with help from my favourite Pastry Chef Anna Olson. Soon I will be making a Halloween 🎃 Black Forest Cherry Halloween Cake w/ caramel frosting. Last year I made an Oreo Cake ( see photo) . Please like and follow as I create some wonderful desserts here and on my YouTube Channel.

For now ; today is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada 🍁. I would like to wish all my fellow Canadians a Happy Thanksgiving Day. My turkey has been sitting in the brine all night and I better get at it, prepping for this evening’s Thanksgiving Dinner.
